Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W) made history by clinching the Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) title after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC-W) in a thrilling final match. This victory marked a monumental moment for the Smriti Mandhana-led squad, propelling the RCB franchise to its first-ever title in the span of its 16-year history.

In stark contrast, RCB’s men’s team has endured a prolonged drought in the IPL trophy cabinet since their inception in 2008, despite making it to the finals three times in 2009, 2011, and 2016 respectively. Nonetheless, the Bengaluru-based team boasts an immense fan base, largely fueled by the presence of star Indian batsman Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli’s journey with RCB dates back to the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 when he was drafted into the team via an Under 19 draft, marking the beginning of a storied alliance.

Ascending swiftly through the ranks, the Delhi-born cricketer emerged as one of the brightest stars in the cricketing realm. Yet, despite numerous accolades on the field, including stints as RCB’s skipper, Kohli has yet to lift the coveted IPL trophy.

Addressing attendees at the RCB Unbox event held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli extended his congratulations to the women’s team for their WPL triumph. Expressing his aspirations, Kohli voiced his desire to replicate their success by clinching the IPL 2024 trophy. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to the franchise, emphasizing his dream of experiencing IPL victory.

“Hopefully we can double it up with the trophies. That’ll be something truly special. I am always going to be here, try to be part of the group that wins it for the first time. I will try my best with my ability and experience to do it for the fans and the franchise. It is a dream of mine as well to know what it feels like to win the IPL,” Virat Kohli articulated during the RCB Unbox event.
