Virat Kohli suffered a rare early setback during the third and final ODI between India and West Indies at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh on October 3. The veteran batter was dismissed for a golden duck by Jayden Seales, marking his first international duck since India’s tour of Australia in late 2025.

India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first as the hosts made three changes to their playing XI. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj and debutant Anshul Kamboj came into the side for the series finale. India had already sealed the three-match ODI series after winning the first two matches by eight wickets.

Gill’s dismissal brought Kohli to the crease earlier than expected. However, the former India captain lasted only one delivery. Seales bowled a full delivery around middle stump that held its line. Kohli attempted to flick the ball towards the leg side but failed to make contact, with the delivery crashing into the middle stump.

The golden duck added Kohli to an unwanted list in Indian international cricket. He now has 41 ducks across formats, moving past former India fast bowler Ishant Sharma. Kohli is currently second on India’s list for most international ducks and needs three more to equal the unwanted record.

The dismissal also continued an unusual pattern for Kohli. During India’s 2025 tour of Australia, he recorded consecutive ODI ducks for the first time in his career. His latest duck has once again come in October, while his previous four international ducks have all been recorded during the month.

Kohli has also registered only four golden ducks in international cricket, with three of those dismissals coming against West Indies. Despite his strong overall record against the Caribbean side, the veteran batter has now added another unwanted statistic to his numbers against them.

India endured a difficult start after choosing to bat first. Gill was dismissed for just one run after he attempted to work a delivery from Seales down the leg side. The ball took the glove and travelled towards wicketkeeper Shai Hope, who completed the catch.

Seales continued to trouble the Indian batters in the early stages, with the New Chandigarh surface offering some assistance to the bowlers. Rohit Sharma adopted a cautious approach as India looked to recover from the early setbacks.

At the time of the report, Rohit was batting on 21 runs alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad. The former India captain entered the game in confident form after scoring a century in the previous ODI and would be looking to anchor India’s innings and help them recover from the early wickets.
