Virat Kohli has a knack for lighting up the internet with his on-field theatrics, and he did it once again on Saturday, December 6, during the third ODI between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam. After taking a sharp catch to dismiss Temba Bavuma off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling, Kohli decided to add his own flavour to the moment—by hilariously imitating Bavuma’s walk. It was classic Kohli: competitive, expressive, and undeniably entertaining.

Bavuma, who walked in during the very first over after Arshdeep Singh sent Ryan Rickelton packing for a duck, played a steady and patient knock. His 48 off 67 deliveries, combined with a strong 113-run stand with Quinton de Kock, helped South Africa settle into the innings and frustrate India’s bowlers.

With de Kock looking fluent and Bavuma anchoring the other end, India desperately needed a breakthrough. That opening came in the last ball of the 21st over. Jadeja tossed one up outside off, tempting Bavuma into the drive. The ball gripped just enough, taking the outside half of the bat and flying straight to Kohli at backward point.

The former India captain held onto it comfortably before breaking into his playful Bavuma-walk imitation. The Indian dressing room erupted, and once the crowd understood what Kohli was up to, the stadium roared in approval.

On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna showcased a strong comeback story of his own. After being taken apart for 27 runs in his first two overs, stand-in captain KL Rahul trusted him again in the 27th over—and the pacer responded brilliantly. He tightened his lines, gave away just two runs, and then struck twice in his next over. First came Matthew Breetzke’s LBW dismissal with a sharp nip-backer, followed by Aiden Markram chipping one straight to Kohli at cover.

South Africa, cruising at 168/2, suddenly found themselves stumbling at 170/4 by the 29th over. With de Kock still at the crease, the visitors had hope—but India had clawed their way right back into the contest.
