West Indies opener Shai Hope has entered the top 10 of the latest ICC ODI rankings after showing fine form in the three-match series in India that ended on Sunday. He took a leap of five positions after scoring 222 runs in the series including an unbeaten 102 in the opening match in Chennai, which his side won before going down in Visakhapatnam and Cuttack.

Also moving up in the batting rankings are his teammates Shimron Hetmyer (six places to 19th) and Nicholas Pooran (33 places to 30th). Fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell (up six places to 30th) and Keemo Paul (up 35 places to 104th) have also gained in the latest rankings update.

The batting list is still being led by the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli followed by Rohit Sharma, who are in first and second places, while Lokesh Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made notable gains. Rahul’s 185 runs in the series have lifted him 17 places to 71st place while Iyer’s 130-run aggregate sees him move from 104th to 81st.

Hope had a decent campaign against India as he scored 222 runs at an average of 111. The Barbados-born scored a century in the first ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The knock helped his team to an eight-wicket victory, and most importantly a 1-0 lead in the series.

In the next couple of games in Vizag and Cuttack, Hope turned up with useful scores of 78 and 42, though they came in losing causes. Overall, Hope had an incredible time in 2019, especially while playing the ODI format. He scored 1,345 runs in 28 contests at an average of 61.13.

He also scored four centuries and eight fifties to show for his efforts for the West Indies. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ended above the Caribbean batter. In 72 ODIs, Hope has racked up 3,007 runs at an average of 52.75 with eight tons and 15 half-centuries.
