The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been going through a lean patch in the ongoing New Zealand tour stretched into the Tests as well. In the first of the two-match series, he only managed to register the scores of 19 and 2 runs in two outings, and now there are rumors of him being out of form for very long. Instead, Kohli has scored just one fifty in nine innings on tour so far and would be hoping to make amends in the second and final Test match in Christchurch.

Despite lack of runs, Virat isn’t bothered much. According to him, there is nothing wrong with his batting as he is in a very good space. He also opines that it doesn’t go as per the plan every time, and it is all about trying not to overthink it (the form).

Talking to the reporters, Kohli said, “I am absolutely fine, I am batting really well. I feel that sometimes that scores don’t reflect the way you are batting. That’s what happens sometimes when you don’t execute really well. Look when you play so much cricket and play for so long, you will obviously have 3-4 innings which don’t go your way. I think it’s about staying in a good space.”

Virat also concerned at the moment with the Indian skipper who hasn’t scored a century in his last 20 international innings. While these shouldn’t be worrying for any other cricketer, he has set himself such high standards that this seems to be a small slump in his batting form.

But Kohli reckons that he might start to doubt himself if he thinks like the outside people. He believes it is all about staying functional space, and the runs will start flowing soon.

The Indian skipper elaborated, “I know the chat on the outside changes with one inning, but I don’t think like that. If I thought about people on the outside, I would be outside right now. I think it’s all about doing the basics right and putting the hard work in the practice. You can’t really think walking out that ‘I have to do it all the time’. You take pride in performing and I have always done that. I am looking forward to contributing to a win in the next Test.”
