Taking to Instagram, Kohli wrote, “Rest in peace, Asha Bhosle Ji. Your voice touched millions and will live on forever in our hearts. Om Shanti.” His message reflected the emotions of a nation that grew up listening to her unforgettable songs.

Asha Bhosle’s career spanned decades, during which she delivered thousands of songs across genres—romantic melodies, peppy chartbusters, and soulful ghazals. Her versatility and consistency made her one of the most celebrated playback singers in Indian music history, with a global fan base that transcended generations.

As the country mourns her loss, an old tribute from Brett Lee has resurfaced, highlighting her international influence. In his autobiography My Life, Lee described her as the “Aretha Franklin of Indian music,” drawing a powerful comparison with Aretha Franklin. He praised not only her extraordinary vocal range but also her warm personality and sense of humour.

The bond between Lee and Bhosle dates back to 2006, during the ICC Champions Trophy in India. A passionate musician himself, Lee collaborated with her on the song “You’re the One for Me.” In a fascinating anecdote, he revealed that he quietly stepped away from his Australian teammates, pretending to explore the city while secretly recording the track.

Lee later shared that he wrote his part of the song in just 30 minutes, making the collaboration even more special. Months later, when Bhosle performed at the Sydney Opera House, she gifted him a signed album—something he continues to cherish.

For Lee, the experience symbolised how music can bridge worlds beyond sport. While cricket follows structure and discipline, music offered him creative freedom alongside a legend. As tributes continue to pour in, Asha Bhosle’s legacy remains timeless—an artist whose voice not only defined Indian music but also connected cultures across the globe.
