Virat Kohli, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Rajat Patidar, who has been named the new leader of the franchise for IPL 2025. Patidar, a talented top-order batter, takes over the reins from Faf du Plessis after the South African veteran was released ahead of the mega auction last year.

In a special video message played during an event announcing Patidar’s appointment, Kohli expressed his confidence in the batter’s ability to take RCB forward. Kohli, who has led the franchise for several years, emphasized that Patidar has earned this opportunity through his dedication and consistent performances.
“Rajat, firstly, congratulations! I wish you all the very best. The way you have grown in this franchise and performed over the years has been phenomenal. You have carved a special place in the hearts of RCB fans across India, and they love watching you play. This opportunity is well deserved, and I want you to know that myself and the entire team will be right behind you, offering our full support as you take on this role,” Virat Kohli said.

Virat Kohli acknowledged that captaining RCB is a huge responsibility, especially for a team still chasing its elusive maiden IPL title. However, he expressed his faith in Patidar’s potential, stating that the right-hander has shown remarkable growth as a player in the last couple of years.
“It’s a big responsibility, no doubt. I have led this team for many years, and Faf has done it in the last few seasons. Now, you have been chosen to take this franchise forward, which I’m sure is a great honor for you. I’m very happy for you because you’ve earned this role. I’ve watched you evolve as a player, and I know you have what it takes to succeed,” Virat Kohli added.

Patidar’s leadership credentials have been evident in domestic cricket as well. Earlier this season, he captained Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, leading his team to the SMAT final, where they fell short against Mumbai. His performances were impressive, scoring 428 runs at a strike rate of 186.08.
Kohli believes Patidar’s experience in leading his state team will help him transition into his new role at RCB. He urged fans to rally behind their new captain and support him throughout the season.

Regardless of what happens, our focus should be on the team’s success and working towards making this franchise even better,” Virat Kohli emphasized.
As he signed off, Kohli sent his best wishes to Patidar and expressed his excitement for the upcoming IPL season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Rajat lead from the front and start the season with a bang. Sending all the fans lots of love and looking forward to being back with you all soon,” he concluded.
