Virat Kohli will look to put behind his ordinary run with the bat in the recently-concluded Test series and ride on his form in the shortest format of the game. Notably, Kohli is the highest run-getter in the T20I format and needs 72 more runs to become the first-ever batsman to surpass the tally of 3000 runs in T20Is. If he achieves the feat, he will also be the first player to breach the 3000-run mark in each of the three formats of the game.

- Virat Kohli – 2,928
- Martin Guptill – 2,839
- Rohit Sharma – 2,773
- Aaron Finch – 2,346
- Shoaib Malik – 2,335
Virat Kohli can also become only the third player to complete 12000 international runs as captain if he scores 17 more runs in the first T20I. Only Ricky Ponting (15440) and Graeme Smith (14878) have already surpassed this milestone.

Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma is also eyeing few T20I milestones as he needs 13 more sixes to surpass Martin Guptill (139) as the highest six-hitter in the T20Is. Rohit also needs 67 more runs to go past Martin Guptill in runs tally and reach the second position in the highest run-getter list.
