Virat Kohli once again showed his brilliance in the field during the third ODI between India and West Indies at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. The former India captain produced a stunning direct hit to run out well-set West Indies batter Amir Jangoo, giving the hosts a crucial breakthrough during the run chase. West Indies were chasing a challenging target of 352 when Jangoo’s promising innings came to an unfortunate end in the 21st over.

The left-hander had played a composed knock of 67 from 56 deliveries, hitting five fours and one six, and was building an important partnership with captain Shai Hope.

The dismissal came after a fielding error briefly created confusion between the two West Indies batters. Kohli initially failed to collect the ball cleanly, giving Jangoo and Hope an opportunity to consider a quick single.

The pair decided to take the risk, but Kohli recovered quickly and unleashed a powerful throw towards the stumps. His direct hit caught Jangoo well short of his crease, leaving the batter with no chance of making his ground.

The on-field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire to confirm the run-out. Replays showed that Jangoo was clearly short of the crease when Kohli’s throw hit the stumps and dislodged the bails.

Naman Dhir, who was bowling the over, was positioned behind the stumps to complete the play if required. However, Kohli’s throw was so accurate that Dhir had little to do.

The wicket ended a crucial partnership between Jangoo and Hope and provided India with an important opening during the middle overs. Jangoo had looked comfortable against the Indian attack and was threatening to keep West Indies firmly in the chase.

Kohli’s direct hit once again highlighted why he remains one of India’s most reliable fielders, even when his batting contribution has not gone according to plan. With Jangoo dismissed for 67, West Indies lost one of their key batters while chasing 352 in the third and final ODI of the series.
