India’s final practice session before the three-match ODI series against Australia turned into an inspiring display of teamwork and leadership at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The blend of experience and youthful energy was on full display as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill trained together, creating a moment that symbolised both transition and continuity within Indian cricket.

The Men in Blue went through an intense net session ahead of the first ODI on October 19, with captain Shubman Gill taking the lead. Gill spent a significant amount of time facing both pace and spin, looking composed yet determined. What caught everyone’s attention, however, was his constant interaction with Kohli. Between deliveries, Kohli could be seen offering technical guidance — from adjusting batting angles to refining timing — while Gill listened intently, absorbing every bit of wisdom.

It was a moment that reflected more than just mentorship; it captured the evolution of Indian cricket’s leadership. The outgoing stalwart guiding the young leader — a perfect symbol of India’s seamless transition. Kohli’s involvement showcased his continued passion for nurturing talent, while Gill’s openness reflected maturity beyond his years.

After completing his batting stint, Gill walked over to Rohit Sharma, who was stationed near the pitch square. The two shared an animated discussion, pointing towards different areas of the field, possibly strategising about batting positions and field placements. The conversation had the tone of a tactical meeting, underscoring the unity among India’s senior and emerging leaders.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir observed the entire session closely, occasionally stepping in to share insights with Gill. Later, Kohli, Rohit, Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal gathered near the boundary for a light-hearted chat, laughing and joking — a moment that quickly went viral online, highlighting the relaxed yet focused vibe in the camp.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma had a quieter but equally purposeful session. The veteran opener focused on catching drills and short-range reflex work, emphasising his commitment to peak fitness. His calm, composed demeanour brought a reassuring sense of stability to the squad.

Earlier in the day, KL Rahul, who will take up wicketkeeping duties for the series, was one of the first to step into the nets. His footwork looked crisp, and his timing sharp, signalling readiness to anchor India’s middle order once again.
