Star batter Virat Kohli is attuned to form as he gets ready for the first Test against Bangladesh at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. The two-match Test series, much-awaited, will begin on September 19 and net practice by Kohli is churning up excitement among fans. A viral video of Day 2 of India’s Chennai nets session reveals Kohli batting pretty confidently in the nets.

Perhaps one high point in the clip is a massive six that shattered a wall in the stadium – well, a sure indication of sheer strength and accuracy by Kohli later during the nets session, Kohli was spotted talking to India head coach Gautam Gambhir. He was found deep in discussion with Gambhir as they could be studying Kohli’s batting technique and the strategy for the games ahead.

The series can be a landmark for Kohli. As India clashes with Bangladesh in Chennai and Kanpur, the ace batter stands at 27,000 international runs away from crossing that mark. At the moment, Kohli has 26,942 runs across formats. Hopefully, he breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record as he becomes the fastest player to touch this milestone.

In fact, it was on Tendulkar’s 623 innings when he achieved the feat, while Kohli has played just 591 innings and requires 58 runs. If Kohli gets these 58 runs in his next eight innings, it will become history that he will be the fastest in the 147-year history of international cricket by crossing the 27,000-run milestone in fewer than 600 innings.

The Indians, on their part, are looking forward to reaching their third successive World Test Championship (WTC) final. India tops the WTC list, having won six out of nine tests, and Bangladesh comes at fourth place, after winning two test matches consecutively against Pakistan recently.
