As Team India defeated England in the third Test match, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni in terms of winning most Test matches as an India captain at home. Virat Kohli now has 22 wins in 29 Tests as skipper, while Dhoni finished his career with 21 wins from 30 Tests at home. India won the game by 10 wickets on the second day in Ahmedabad and have taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match series against England. It is worth noting that Kohli is already India’s most successful Test captain with 35 wins.

In what was a strange match according to Kohli, India wrapped up a victory in just two days and will be taking on England in the fourth Test starting March 4 at the same venue. As many as 17 wickets fell on Day 2, with spinners from both teams blitzing past batsmen with ease. The hosts had to chase down a small target of 49 runs in their second innings, and Rohit Sharma slammed a six to seal the victory.

The fixture was also the 100th Test for the Indian pacer, Ishant Sharma’s 100th Test match. Meanwhile, veteran spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin reached the milestone of 400 Test wickets, becoming the fastest Indian to achieve the feat. If India manages to not lose the final Test match in Ahmedabad, they will book a berth in the WTC final and face New Zealand.

Talking about the win in Ahmedabad, Virat Kohli termed it as a “bizarre game”. The hosts have taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series, with the fourth Test fixture set to begin from March 4. After the match, Kohli quipped, “I have never experienced this before. A bizarre game which got over in two days.”

Joking that Ishant Sharma, who was in his 100th Test match, also didn’t get to bowl much, Kohli said, “Bumrah said I am getting workload management while playing. Ishant said I am playing my 100th game and still don’t get to bowl.”

Many fans opined on social media that both the teams batted poorly during the third Test match. But Kohli felt that there was a lack of application among the batsmen.

Talking about the same, Kohli said, “We were 100 for 3 and then got bowled out for less than 150. It was just the oddball turning and it was a good wicket to bat in the first innings. It was bizarre that 21 of the 30 wickets fell to straight balls, Test cricket is about trusting your defense. Lack of application ensured it was a quick finish.”

Praising Axar Patel for another five-wicket haul, Kohli joked that Gujarat has a knack for producing left-arm spinners citing the example of Ravindra Jadeja. He feels that its difficult for a batsman to sweep to Axar but one also can’t also keep on defending as he has the ability to bowl.
