Virat Kohli reminded fans of his unmatched athleticism with a spectacular catch to dismiss the in-form Matthew Short during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, October 25. The former Indian skipper once again showed why he remains one of the most agile fielders in world cricket.

After winning the toss, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh chose to bat first, and his side got off to a steady start. Openers Travis Head and Marsh added 61 runs for the first wicket before Mohammed Siraj struck in the 10th over, removing Head for 29. Marsh, who looked solid, added 27 runs with Short before Axar Patel clean bowled him with a brilliant delivery, sending the Aussie skipper back for 41 off 50 balls.

With both openers gone, the responsibility shifted to Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw to rebuild the innings. Short, who had scored a fluent 74 in the previous match, looked set for another big knock. However, his innings was cut short at 30 runs after a moment of brilliance from Kohli in the 23rd over, bowled by Washington Sundar.

On the third delivery of the over, Washington Sundar floated one outside off, and Short went for a powerful sweep. The ball raced off his bat, but Kohli, stationed at forward square leg, reacted lightning-fast. With impeccable reflexes and balance, he grabbed the ball cleanly inches above the turf, leaving the SCG crowd stunned.

It was the kind of catch that defined Kohli’s presence on the field — sharp, instinctive, and game-changing. At the time of writing, Australia stood at 137/3 after 26 overs, with Renshaw and Alex Carey battling to steady the innings against India’s disciplined bowling attack.
