Royal Challengers Bengaluru returned to winning ways on Sunday night with a hard-fought 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium. Even so, RCB had a minor worry after Virat Kohli did not take the field during the second half of the game.

Virat Kohli had earlier played a key role with the bat, scoring a fluent half-century in RCB’s imposing total of 240/4, but he remained inside the dressing room while Mumbai chased. The veteran batter is understood to be dealing with an ankle issue, and RCB used Jacob Bethell as a substitute fielder as they held their nerve to seal their third win of the season.
After the match, Krunal Pandya offered a reassuring update on Kohli’s condition and suggested there was little reason for concern.

“I’ve not spoken to the physio yet, but I think he will be fine. So, I guess nothing to worry,” Krunal Pandya said after the match.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar had also calmed nerves earlier, saying Kohli looked okay after the game. Kohli, who opened the innings in this much-anticipated contest, scored 50 off 38 balls, striking five boundaries and a six before Hardik Pandya removed him in the 15th over. The RCB star appeared visibly disappointed as he walked back, even tossing his helmet near the dugout.

Despite Kohli’s dismissal, RCB pressed on to post a mammoth total, and Mumbai Indians fell short at 222/5. With 179 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 162.73, Kohli remains RCB’s second-highest scorer this season. The defending champions now turn their attention to Lucknow Super Giants, whom they will face at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
