While Virat Kohli’s decision to opt out of the first two Tests remains unexplained, the BCCI statement on his absence did not provide specific reasons. Previously, he had skipped the ODI and T20I series during the South Africa tour before rejoining the squad for the two-match Test series.

Virat Kohli’s absence was palpable in the Indian squad, leading to a defeat in the first Test against England in Hyderabad. Despite a strong position after the first innings, a spectacular 196-run innings by English vice-captain Ollie Pope left the side led by Rohit Sharma bewildered.

However, the loss of momentum carried over to the final innings, where India was set a target of 230 runs with well over a day’s play remaining. The English spinners, led by debutant Tom Hartley’s impressive performance (7/62), outplayed the Indian batting attack, securing a victory for England.

The Indian team is eager to welcome Virat Kohli back into the squad, recognizing his prowess in the middle order. His experience and ability to turn the game in favour of the team against formidable opponents will be crucial in the upcoming matches.

As India prepares for the second Test against England in Vishakapatnam, the team hopes to bounce back with a win. They aim to remain competitive, secure the series victory, and extend their undefeated series record, a streak that dates back to 2012.
