Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar Virat Kohli looks in ominous touch ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28. The former RCB skipper has already sent strong signals during the team’s intra-squad matches, showcasing the kind of aggressive intent that has defined modern T20 batting.

In RCB’s recent practice games, Kohli appeared at his fluent best. He reportedly smashed a quickfire 45 off just 19 balls in the second intra-squad clash, following it up with a blistering 29 off 12 deliveries in the first game. These knocks, though unofficial, underline Kohli’s sharp preparation as RCB gear up to defend their maiden IPL title, which they clinched last season against Punjab Kings.
RCB’s mentor and batting coach Dinesh Karthik was visibly impressed with Kohli’s rhythm and mindset heading into the new season. Reflecting on his performance, Karthik said, “Good game today. The class of Virat came through quite nicely up front, played some lovely shots.”

He further added, “The greatness about Virat is every year he comes up with a certain plan, a certain intent.” Highlighting Kohli’s hunger for improvement, Karthik noted, “I feel this year he’ll try and get even better. That tells a lot about the person that he is.”
🚨 KOHLI IS IN “KING MODE” ALREADY! 👑

Rivals were already worried but Dinesh Karthik says Kohli has “upped” his game even further for 2026. The 9,000 runs milestone is just a small hurdle.

From a records perspective, Kohli remains the leading run-scorer in IPL history with 8661 runs and is on the brink of becoming the first player to reach the 9000-run milestone. He is also closing in on another landmark, aiming to join Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma as the only players with 300 or more IPL sixes.
With crucial fixtures lined up against Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians early in the season, Kohli’s form could define RCB’s title defence.
