Indian cricket sensation KL Rahul and his wife, actress Athiya Shetty, took to social media to share their latest charitable initiative: a ‘Cricket for Charity’ auction in support of the Vipla Foundation. The institution is very close to the cricketer’s heart since his grandmother founded it with the aim of making good-quality education available to underprivileged children.

The auction was held on Friday, August 23, and comprised a variety of cricket memorabilia from some giants of the game. In a video shared on social media, Rahul, accompanied by Shetty, urged fans to come out and participate for the cause.

The auction proved to be a gigantic success and raised as much as INR 1.93 crores. The jersey worn by star Indian batter Virat Kohli was one of the crawling items in the auction that raised as much as INR 40 lakhs. Even the batting gloves of Kohli took their due time in the limelight by selling at INR 28 lakhs.

Then there was Rohit Sharma’s bat, which came for a price of INR 24 lakhs. But that’s not all. The bat of former skipper MS Dhoni also attracted a hefty amount of INR 13 lakhs.

Another significant donation was made by the legendary former India batsman and head coach Rahul Dravid, whose bat sold for INR 11 lakhs. The enthusiastic response and high bidding indeed proved how strongly the cricketing community stands up to support this noble cause, making it a great success at heart for the Vipla Foundation.
