Virat Kohli’s prowess as one of the world’s finest fielders is undisputed. Renowned for his exceptional fitness levels, the Indian cricket superstar consistently showcases stellar fielding performances on the cricket field, be it within the inner circle or in the outfield. However, even the best are prone to rare blunders, as was evident during the clash between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Saturday (April 6).
In a rare misjudgment, Kohli’s decision on the field cost his team four crucial runs. The incident unfolded in the eighth over of the match when Himanshu Sharma bowled to RR captain Sanju Samson. As Samson struck the ball into the gap between deep mid-wicket and long-on, Kohli, stationed at deep mid-wicket, chose not to go for the catch despite the ball being well within his reach.

Despite this fielding hiccup, Virat Kohli had earlier showcased his batting brilliance to lead RCB’s charge with the bat. After RR won the toss and opted to bowl first, Kohli played a pivotal role in propelling RCB to a competitive total. Notching up the first century of the ongoing IPL 2024 season, the former RCB captain guided his team to a commanding total of 183/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Partnering with captain Faf du Plessis, Kohli orchestrated a formidable 125-run opening stand before du Plessis’ departure in the 14th over. Despite the middle-order batsmen’s inability to capitalize, Kohli remained steadfast, concluding his innings unbeaten on 113 off 72 balls. His stellar knock included 12 boundaries and four sixes, underscoring his indispensable contribution to RCB’s innings.
