In a moment of sportsmanship, Virat Kohli came to the rescue of the on-field umpire during the IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The incident unfolded in the seventh over when Vijaykumar Vyshak bowled to David Miller. As a delivery veered down the leg side, Miller attempted to play it but missed, leading to a confident appeal from RCB for a caught behind.
However, the umpire ruled in favour of the batsman, prompting RCB to challenge the decision. Upon review, it became evident that Miller hadn’t made contact with the ball before wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik caught it. While the on-field umpire’s decision stood, Kohli, displaying sportsmanship, reminded the umpire to signal the wide as well, gesturing with extended arms near Karthik.

On the fielding front, RCB’s bowlers exhibited commendable performance, restricting GT to 147 runs after Faf du Plessis, GT’s skipper, elected to bat first. Despite a shaky start with GT reeling at 19 for 3, Miller and Shahrukh Khan stabilized the innings with a crucial 61-run partnership. However, their dismissals left GT struggling at 87 for 5 in the 13th over.
Rahul Tewatia’s knock of 35 runs and contributions from the lower order helped GT surpass the 140-run mark. Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, and Vijaykumar stood out for RCB, each claiming two wickets to dismantle GT’s batting lineup.
