Instead, it was a “side contract” — one that deals primarily with promotional commitments, advertising appearances, and brand endorsements linked to the franchise. The playing contract, which determines whether Kohli will represent RCB on the field, remains entirely separate and unaffected.
“Virat Kohli refusing to renew a commercial contract doesn’t mean he’s leaving RCB,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel. “He’s the face of the franchise, the player who just led them to their maiden IPL trophy. Why would he step away now? He’s definitely staying.” Chopra also added that there’s every chance the commercial deal could be renegotiated or replaced later, depending on the franchise’s internal developments.
