The former Indian opening partners Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are now set to join in the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA).

On Wednesday, the new DDCA president Rajat Sharma announced the appointment of three-member Cricket Committee where the former Delhi and Indian cricketers Aakash Chopra and Rahul Sanghvi have been named along with Sehwag.

Rajat Sharma has claimed that their selections have been made as per Lodha Committee recommendations.

Gautam Gambhir is the special invitee to the committee but his role hasn’t been clarified to the media. Apart from Gambhir, all are the former cricketers, while Gambhir is still an active cricketer who can face the Conflict of Interest on this matter.

DDCA secretary Vinod Tihara told PTI about Gambhir’s role, “We haven’t decided on that part but Gautam will be a special invitee.”

Meanwhile, the former Indian opener Sehwag owns a cricket academy and also has a contract with the news channel India TV that is owned by the DDCA president. Sanghvi is the team manager of Mumbai Indians while Chopra is an expert on various channels. These can also raise the question of Conflict of Interest.

Admitting the issue of Conflict of Interest, Tihara said they won’t get the quality people on cricket committee if they strictly follow Lodha recommendations.

He said on that matter, “Of course he would have a role. I understand your question on Conflict of Interest but if we strictly follow Lodha recommendations, we won’t get quality people on cricket committee. For us it was important that we form a panel that has eminence and knowledge. This panel has both. If we start nitpicking, we will not get good enough people.”
