Virender Sehwag faced backlash on social media over allegations of making derogatory remarks towards social media influencer Orry during the IPL 2024 season opener commentary. However, a recently surfaced video has refuted these claims, clearing Sehwag of any wrongdoing. During the commentary panel featuring former Indian cricketers like Suresh Raina and Sehwag, social media influencer Orry made a surprise appearance.

Orry was present in the Star Sports studio

Orry, known for his significant online following and connections with Bollywood celebrities, engaged in banter with the panellists. The controversy erupted when it was initially alleged that Sehwag used a derogatory term towards Orry. However, a video clip of the interaction has shown that Sehwag’s remarks were misinterpreted.

In the video, Orry comments on Sehwag’s attire, implying it’s too expensive for sports activities. The anchor then suggests Orry demonstrate his favourite signature shot, to which Sehwag responds humorously, stating, “If I hit, I will smack him out.” Contrary to the initial accusations, Sehwag’s statement was not derogatory but rather a playful banter in response to Orry’s comments.

The incident sparked a social media frenzy, with false accusations circulating on platforms like Twitter. Despite the controversy, the focus eventually shifted back to the thrilling IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, RCB’s Faf du Plessis showcased excellent form, scoring boundaries in the powerplay. However, apart from du Plessis, RCB’s top order struggled, with Mustafizur Rahman claiming crucial wickets. It was the resilient partnership between Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat that propelled RCB to a competitive total of 173/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, Chennai Super Kings showcased a team effort, with contributions from various batters. Debutant Rachin Ravindra’s explosive innings set the tone, followed by pivotal partnerships involving Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja. Ultimately, CSK achieved the target with six wickets and eight balls to spare, securing a thrilling victory in the season opener.
