After the Rajasthan Royals’ narrow 11-run loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag offered valuable advice to young Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Despite the match being in Rajasthan’s grasp until the 18th over, RCB managed to seal their first victory at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged just 14, has made a solid debut in IPL 2025, starting his career with a six off the first ball against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). His explosive batting continued as he scored a 20-ball 34 against LSG, hitting two boundaries and three sixes. Against RCB, Suryavanshi displayed his power-hitting ability again, launching two sixes off veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar before being dismissed.
During a conversation with Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag emphasised the importance of staying grounded. He warned that many young players falter after early success, thinking they have become stars after one or two good performances.

“If you step out knowing you’ll be praised for doing well and criticized for failure, you’ll stay grounded,” said Sehwag, highlighting how some players lose focus after a brief spell of fame.

Virender Sehwag encouraged Vaibhav Suryavanshi to focus on longevity in the IPL, drawing comparisons to Virat Kohli, who began his career at 19 and has now played all 18 seasons.

“Suryavanshi should aim to play 20 years in the IPL, like Kohli did,” Sehwag advised. He added that if Suryavanshi becomes complacent, believing one IPL season is enough, his future in the league could be at risk.
With great potential shown in his early matches, Suryavanshi’s career now hinges on his ability to remain dedicated and keep pushing for long-term success.
