As the curtains draw on IPL 2025, all eyes are on the grand finale between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With both franchises still chasing their maiden IPL title, the biggest question remains — who will finally break the jinx? Former India opener and ex-PBKS skipper Virender Sehwag gave a cheeky yet insightful take on the matter.

RCB and PBKS, two of the league’s original teams since the inaugural 2008 season, are no strangers to heartbreak. RCB have made it to the final thrice—in 2009, 2011, and 2016—but ended up second-best on all three occasions. PBKS came close only once, in 2014, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders. Sehwag, known for his witty observations, shared a humorous explanation for his prediction during a segment on Cricbuzz.

“I think RCB will win. I’ve gone back to my old form — whichever team I support ends up losing! GT lost when I backed them against MI, PBKS lost Qualifier 1 against RCB, and I supported MI in Qualifier 2 — they lost as well,” Virender Sehwag said with a grin. He even joked that this “curse” has affected the Indian team in the past, too.

Sehwag cleverly hinted he’s backing PBKS in spirit but publicly rooting for RCB to flip his supposed jinx in their favour. RCB earned their final spot after a dominant victory over PBKS in Qualifier 1. Meanwhile, PBKS fought back in style, with skipper Shreyas Iyer’s sublime knock guiding them past Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

The final is more than just a title clash — it’s about legacy. For RCB, it could be Virat Kohli’s crowning moment after nearly two decades of loyalty. For PBKS, Iyer’s leadership has given their fan base new hope.
