Vishnu Solanki Scores Century In Ranji Trophy Despite Losing New-born Daughter

Vishnu Solanki was in Bhubaneswar while playing for Baroda’s earlier Ranji Trophy 2022 fixture against Bengal when he got to know about the unfortunate demise of his newborn daughter. He flew back to Vadodara and attended the funeral, and then, three days later, took a flight to return to Bhubaneswar for Baroda’s match against Chandigarh.

Vishnu Solanki managed to get over the personal tragedy to score a gritty century against Chandigarh. He scored 104 runs off 165 balls with the help of 12 fours, helped Baroda reach 517 after Chandigarh got bundled out for a meager score of 168. However, Chandigarh managed to make a strong comeback in the second innings, posting 145/0 at the tea break on Day 3. They still need to score 204 more to ask Baroda to bat again.

Shishir Hattangadi, the CEO of Baroda Cricket Association, showered praises on Vishnu Solanki for braving his personal tragedy to score a hundred. He tweeted, “Story of a Cricketer who lost his newborn daughter a few days ago. He attends the funeral and gets back to represent his team to get a hundred. His name may not make social media “likes”, but for me #vishnoosolanki is a real life hero. An inspiration!”

According to the reports of the Hindustan Times, Vishnu Solanki received the news of his daughter’s birth past midnight on February 11. Within 24 hours, he was informed that the newborn is no more. Solanki, who was in Bhubaneswar with his state team, flew back to Vadodara to attend the funeral. Within three days, he managed to fly back to Bhubaneswar and joined his state team.

Saurashtra’s wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson also lauded Vishnu Solanki for his valiant efforts. Jackson tweeted, “What a player. Has to be the toughest player I have known. A big salute to Vishnu and his family by no means this is easy. Wish you many more hundreds and a lot of success.”
