Ever since Dinesh Karthik made a comeback to the Indian T20I side with the home series against South Africa, he has played some incredible knocks. He has been coming into bat in slog overs and scoring runs at a brisk pace and he has been assigned the role of finishing games. However, cricketing pundits have questioned his approach as to why a player of his experience can’t bat before the 15-over mark. Former India cricketer Vivek Razdan expressed doubts about India’s plan regarding Karthik after former chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth had done the same.

Vivek Razdan said ‘blocking’ a spot for Karthik ‘doesn’t seem right’. The former Indian fast bowler said it’s not as if the same job can’t be done by a Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya or Deepak Hooda.

Talking about the same during a recent chat with FanCode, Vivek Razdan said, “Picking Dines Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem quite right to me. You are blocking a spot for Dinesh Karthik. You tell me who among Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya can’t do that job of a finisher?”.

On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik is more confident than ever. He knows he has been getting ample support from captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to do what he has been doing.

Dinesh Karthik had said, “As a sportsperson, it is a given, when you are playing at a higher level and when people expect certain things out of you. What is important is making sure that on a given day, what the match situation is, reading the match situation and trying to give your best on that given day.”

He further added, “Finisher’s role is one such that it is hard to be consistent. Every time you get in, you should be able to make an impact that will help the team. It works both ways, the bowlers are clever and they try to force you to hit into the wind as much as possible. That makes it all the tougher.”
