Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is one of the very few sportspersons on whom a biopic was made when he was still playing. The movie ‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’ was successful in portraying Dhoni’s struggles before making it to the national squad in 2004 during the Bangladesh tour. The former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman was taken aback after knowing about the same and lauded Dhoni’s grit for fighting all the odds making it big at the international level.
Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh’s name was making the rounds in the Indian fraternity for quite a decent amount of time. The latter went on to make his debut in the late 1990s but Dhoni was let down by his fate as he missed his flight to join the Duleep Trophy. He had to go through the grind once again for the next few years again before finally getting a chance in India A side.
During the India Today conclave on Friday, Laxman said, “MS Dhoni is a classic example. When I saw his movie, I was taken aback. I didn’t know the trouble he went through. What is so great about MS is that he never ever give excuses for not getting opportunities. What you can do when you’re not getting enough opportunities keeps you going.”

VVS Laxman also highlighted the careers of the likes of RP Singh and MSK Prasad who managed to stamp their authority at the highest level. As these cricketers came from the places where there were no practice facilities in Guntur during his initial years.
Moreover, Laxman was also effusive in praise of the other athletes and recalled how he was in tears after watching the movie Dangal.
The ICC World Cup 2019 is only five months away and teams are busy churning out the appropriate combinations for the mega tournament in England and Wales. Laxman also named the teams who would be entering the tournament as the favorites.
Laxman elaborated, “India and England favorites. Being an Indian, I want India to win. I am not going to remove my shirt at Lord’s. That’s a challenge posed by Sourav to Virat. Happy to leave it to them. I don’t have six packs like Sourav had or at least he had the confidence of removing his shirt [at the Lord’s balcony].”
