Former India cricketer, as well as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) mentor VVS Laxman, has recently recalled the incidents of May 3rd when the news of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and CEO Kasi Viswanathan had tested positive for Covid-19 came in the light. Laxman said that the ‘apprehensions mounted’ once SRH camp got to know the news.
“We had full confidence in the protocols that had been put in place even when we moved from one city to another, but once we learnt of the positive tests in the KKR and CSK camp, our apprehensions mounted,” he wrote in his column in TOI. “We [SRH] had just finished a match against CSK and several of us caught up with old friends, so there was understandable anxiety and unrest until the test results were out.”
VVS Laxman, who can be seen in the dugout along with players, revealed that he has no idea how their wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha got affected. He also shared that Wriddhi was about to play the match against Rajasthan Royals but he felt ‘under the weather.’

“Wriddhi was slated to play Sunday’s match against Rajasthan Royals but felt a little under the weather on Saturday night. We immediately placed him in isolation and, despite our prayers, he returned a positive test. We are still wondering how, despite taking all precautions, Wriddhi got infected,” Laxman further added.
However, Laxman backed the decision of postponing the tournament as he believed that the health and safety of players and others should be the first priority amid this situation. “Unfortunate as it might appear, the right decision was taken to suspend the IPL following the breach of bio-secure bubbles of four franchises across two cities,” he again shared.

However, the IPL 2021 got postponed after several players got affected by Covid-19 as it broke out inside the bio-bubble in multiple cities like Ahmedabad and New Delhi as well. It started with two Kolkata Knight Riders players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive and that led to the cancellation of their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Soon after, three support staff of CSK reported positive and later Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman Saha have eventually tested positives too that led to the cancellation of the cash-rich league for the time being. Notably, the BCCI is looking to resume the league in late September or in November as well.
