In an interview with JioCinema, former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis expressed his concerns about Pakistan’s weak bowling and Babar Azam’s struggles ahead of the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2023. Younis said that Pakistan’s bowling has not been at their usual best in recent times, even their star pacer Shaheen Afridi has been struggling to find his form.

“We have always talked about how Pakistan’s batting is their weaker link and bowling their strength. But ahead of the match against India, I feel it’s the other way around. There are a few issues with Pakistan’s bowling which started from the Asia Cup,” Waqar Younis said.

“I think they have to improve here even for the games going ahead. Shaheen is not bowling well, it’s as simple as that. I don’t think he has an injured finger. He is struggling to find his rhythm and has struggled to find his form since the Asia Cup game in Kandy. So that’s a worry.”

Younis also spoke about how Babar Azam’s lack of runs is hurting Pakistan’s chances. He added that Azam’s captaincy will be questioned if he is not able to perform against big teams.

“If you are to be known as a big player, you have to score against the big teams and also captain well. His performance as a captain was largely dependent on the bowling performances of Shaheen, Shadab, and Haris’s bowling. They would give him breakthroughs which made his work easier. Now that this is not happening, your captaincy will be tested, and questions will be raised,” said Waqar Younis.

Pakistan will need to address their bowling concerns and Babar Azam will need to find his form if they want to beat India in the World Cup clash. It will be a tough challenge for them, but they have the talent to do it.
