Sun Risers Hyderabad’s captain, David Warner, had luck on his side in Hyderabad’s last league encounter against Gujarat Lions in Kanpur yesterday. The lucky reprieve was not only for Warner but for the whole team. Such has been Sun Risers’ dependability on their captain.
Chasing a target of 155 to remain in the tournament, Sun Risers received early blows in the form of Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques. Warner and Vijay Shankar, then came together to provide the rescue act, which was later converted to the winning act.
On the third delivery of the 10th over, Warner edged an Ankit Soni delivery to Dinesh Karthik, who went up in celebration straight away. To everyone’s shock and Sun Risers’ luck, the umpire had not spotted the nick. The visitors still required 82 runs from 63 balls when this happened.
Had Gujarat Lions dismissed Warner, the outcome of the match could have been different for them. However, it would have not affected the points table at all.
And had the umpire given Warner out, the outcome of both the match and the league could have been different. Watch the full video:
