Washington Sundar isn’t one to shy away from tough questions, but during a recent media interaction ahead of Gujarat Titans’ clash with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, the all-rounder had a moment of visible irritation. A reporter brought up a quote allegedly attributed to him, suggesting Sundar had expressed dissatisfaction over limited opportunities in the previous IPL season despite his strong presence in international cricket.

“You had to wait till the fourth game for a chance, and someone mentioned on air that you played just two IPL matches but 14 international games last season,” the reporter said, referring to a claim made during a broadcast.
Caught off guard, Sundar immediately questioned the source. “I said that? When did I say that? Did you hear me say that?” he snapped back, clearly not pleased.

When it was clarified that the quote had come from a commentator and not directly from him, Sundar regained his composure and offered a thoughtful response.

He added, “I was definitely waiting for the opportunity and preparing really well. Being part of the Titans is a blessing — we train for long hours, and the coaching staff believes in putting in volume, especially to improve all aspects of the game. That gives me the confidence that whenever the opportunity comes, I’ll be ready.”

Last season, Sundar was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad that made it to the IPL final but featured in just two matches. He bowled only five overs and had little time with the bat, facing just one delivery. Following that underwhelming stint, he was released by SRH ahead of the mega auction, where Gujarat Titans picked him up for ₹3.2 crore.
Now with a fresh start and a franchise that’s backing him, Sundar is determined to turn the page — and let his performances do the talking.
