Washington Sundar Ruled Out Of The IPL 2021 Due To Finger Injury

Virat Kohli-led Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has suffered a huge setback as their all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the second phase of the 14th edition of the cash-rich league. One of the key players for RCB in IPL, Sundar had returned to India from the UK tour after suffering a finger injury.

In a statement, RCB confirmed the development and also announced that in form of Bengal cricketer Akash Deep has been roped in.

RCB’s statement read, “Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 due to an impending finger injury. Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal and net bowler with the franchise has been named as replacement. The move reiterates the focus RCB has on grooming and nurturing young players as the team continues to develop exceptional talents and create a pathway for young talents to find their way into IPL and Indian Cricket.”

In the last couple of seasons, Washingon Sundar has been playing a crucial role for the Royal Challengers Bangalore side, bowling crucial overs in the powerplay. He has played 42 matches in the IPL, in which he has scalped 27 wickets at an impressive economy rate of just over 6.

Sundar began his IPL career with Rising Pune Supergiant before he went to RCB in IPL 2018. RCB bought the services of the all-rounder back in IPL 2018 auction for a price of INR 3.2 crore. RCB also named Wanidu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka’s highly-rated spinner as a replacement for Adam Zampa. They have also roped in the services of  Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera and Singapore all-rounder Tim David for the remainder of IPL 2021.
