Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler, Wasim Akram got provoked after a Pakistan fan question on live TV. The southpaw pacer was asked about his absence in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final against India which made him lose his temper. Akram has often been criticized for not playing the World Cup quarter-final match against India and he decided to pull out just fifteen minutes before the toss due to a rib injury.

Wasim Akram came forward and clarified all the rumors circulating about his unusual absence at the last moment which is criticized by the fans to date. The left-arm fast bowler was the captain of the side at the time and pulling off from a quarter-final game that too against arch-rival India just 15 minutes before the game was heavily criticized at that time.

The former pacer was getting backlashes for the same 1996 game in the T20 World Cup 2022 analysis show for Pakistan channel ‘A Sports’. Wasim Akram responded to all the questions with disdain, “Main tum logon ko thanda kar hi du (I should finally calm you guys down). I have so many words for this young generation… never ever listen to rumors. Okay? You guys weren’t even born when it happened. It’s embarrassing when a Pakistani has a go at me.”

He further added, “I got injured three days ago against New Zealand. I scored 34 runs. I went down to sweep Dion Nash with the fine leg up, and I suffered an intercostal muscle pull. It took six weeks to completely heal. Waqar is sitting here, the reason we did not reveal it in the press is so that India does not get the confidence going into the match that their main player, the captain is injured.”

The rivalry between the two neighboring teams is not new, which leads to emotionally charged questions from fans to their players even after years especially if it’s in regard to a World Cup game. Wasim Akram couldn’t control his emotions as he was still being criticized despite performing really well throughout the tournament for missing a crucial game due an injury that wasn’t in his control.
