Former Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has heaped praise on the Indian fast bowlers, naming Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj as the “best in the world.” Akram’s comments came after an outstanding performance by Bumrah and Shami against England in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which led India to a crucial victory in Lucknow on October 29.
Together, they took seven of the ten wickets in a remarkable display of bowling. Shami, in particular, stood out with nine wickets to his name after just two games in the tournament.
Wasim Akram applauded India’s fast bowlers for breaking England’s confidence by successfully defending a modest total on a challenging pitch. He highlighted India’s exceptional execution, especially considering their struggles with the bat, underscoring their brilliant performance against a spirited England batting lineup.

“Indian pacers look brilliant, they look best in the world starting from the leader of the pack Bumrah, Siraj ran in, and Shami did the last nail in the coffin for England,” commented Wasim Akram on the ‘A Sports’ program. He noted the uniqueness of the pitch in the World Cup, emphasizing its difficulty for batting.
Akram commended the exceptional displays of Bumrah and Shami as they dismantled the English batting order. Despite India’s challenges while batting and posting a modest 229/9 on a challenging wicket, their seamers rose to the occasion by reducing England to just 129 runs. This turnaround illustrated India’s resilience and the prowess of their bowlers.
Jasprit Bumrah’s critical wickets of Dawid Malan and Joe Root set the tone for India, and he later sealed the victory with a precise yorker that shattered the stumps of tailender Mark Wood.
