Wasim Jaffer Feels The Indian Fans Shouldn’t Be Losing Heart

Former Indian opener, Wasim Jaffer managed to find a unique pattern to motivate the fans after Team India suffered a 227-run defeat against England in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Many felt that England the visiting team was scared that the hosts have the capacity to chase down the total. But as it happened on Day 5, England comfortably managed to bundle out Virat Kohli and his men with a lot of overs in hand and took a lead of 1-0 up in the series.

Wasim Jaffer pointed out that the Indian team had managed to pull off a series win both home and away after losing the opening Test and asked the fans to not lose heart. Jaffer had tweeted, “Don’t lose heart Indian fans. The last time India lost the first test of a series, they won the series. The last time India lost the first test of a home series, they won the series. #INDvsENG.”

Notably, India went onto win the recently concluded Border Gavaskar series 2-1 in Australia despite losing the first Test in Adelaide. Earlier, in 2017 India had suffered a loss in the first Test but managed to beat Australia in Dharamsala, Bengaluru to clinch the home series 2-1. Surprisingly both the come from behind series wins came under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane.

Chasing 420 in the final innings, England managed to bundle out the hosts for 192 on Day 5 to become the first team to beat the Indian team at the MA Chidambaram stadium since 1999. The loss also ended India’s 14-match unbeaten streak in home Tests and 8-match unbeaten streak in Chennai.

England set India a humungous target of 420 runs after scoring 178 runs in its second innings. The visitors had scored 578 runs in the first innings owing brilliant double hundred by Joe Root, while India made 337.

It was England’s sixth away Test win in a row and the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The second Test will also be played in Chennai, scheduled to me commencing on Saturday.
