Team India will be going through some tough times in the upcoming Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy following an abysmal show in the opening contest – where the visitors registered their lowest ever innings total in the longest format. A lot of responsibility for the same will be on the stand-in skipper, Ajinkya Rahane for regrouping the team after an embarrassing 8-wicket defeat against Tim Paine & his men.
There have been a plethora of suggestions pouring in for Rahane from various corners of the world as he will be filling in the shoes of Virat Kohli, who will be coming back to India to attend the birth of his first child. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer, who has taken social media by a storm with some of his hilarious posts on Twitter since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, posted a cheeky hidden message for Rahane in terms of selecting the playing XI for the next match.

Fans were quick to decode the message as the first alphabets of all the words suggested – PICK GILL AND RAHUL. Gill, who is touted to be the future of Indian cricket and has been one of the most promising young talents in India’s domestic circuit, is likely to come in the playing XI as the replacement of Prithvi Shaw for the 2nd Test.
Shaw, who was under pressure to perform in Adelaide, failed to live up to the expectations and managed 4 runs in both innings combinedly. In the second practice match between India and Australia A recently, Gill’s batting prowess was there for all to see as he played some decent knocks of 43 and 65 runs respectively in both innings against a quality Australian bowling attack.

On the other hand, KL Rahul has scored a plethora of runs in limited-over cricket and has been supported by many experts for a spot in the playing XI for the second Test – which will be played in Melbourne. Rahul can also play in the side as a wicket-keeper batsman, replacing Saha – who has invited plenty of criticism for his batting failures in both innings at Adelaide.
Mohammad Siraj and Rishabh Pant are two other cricketers in contention for a spot in the playing XI for the 2nd Test.
