Earlier, Wasim Jaffer had expressed his happiness after the performance of Venkatesh Iyer during the T20I series against West Indies. Jaffer believes that considering today’s circumstances, Venkatesh has an edge over Hardik Pandya to make a place in the T20nWorld Cup team. Hardik Pandya was out of the Indian team in November last year due to injury. Since then he has not been able to return.

The Indian chief selector, Chetan Sharma has already made it clear about Hardik Pandya that he will be given a chance for team selection only after he is fully fit. Hardik is batting well, but due to his injury, he has been not been able to bowl consistently.

Wasim Jaffer said during a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, “At present, I see Venkatesh Iyer a little ahead of Hardik Pandya because we do not know whether Hardik will bowl further or not. How fit are they? These questions have not yet been answered. How the IPL passes, while Hardik will answer on Pandya’s future. At present, Venkatesh Iyer is seen ahead of him.”

Wasim Jaffer further elaboarted, “I am amazed how Venkatesh Iyer has molded himself for the No.6 position. We have seen him open but the way he has batted down the order is really unbelievable. Also the way he is bowling and taking many important wickets. This will give an edge to the team looking at the upcoming World Cup.”
