India fought back with everything they had on Day 5 and produced one of the most all-round performances in Test history to stun the hosts and register only their third win in the longest format at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The victory came a day after India celebrated its 75th Independence Day on August 15.

Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to give a hilarious reference to August 15. He tweeted, “If 15th August has taught anything to the British, it is to never mess with Indians after 15th August.”

In another tweet, Wasim Jaffer wrote: “KL Rahul: ‘If you go after one of our guys all eleven will come right back!’ The wolf is the strength of the pack. The pack is the strength of the wolf. And this pack of wolves did some glorious hunting today.”

It was England under pressure when India declared the innings as they have to either wipe the target off or play out 60 overs to settle for a draw. However, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were riled up by England players and they returned to dismiss both English openers for a duck and gave India a flying start. Haseeb Hameed found Indian bowlers too hot to handle and got out to Ishant Sharma. Jonny Bairstow brought some calmness but Ishant dismissed him on the last ball of the second session.

Bumrah took only three balls after the tea break to find Root’s edge and Kohli grabbed a regulation catch in the slip cordon. Moeen Ali hung his bat for a while but Mohammed Siraj dismissed him and Sam Curran off successive balls to give India a sniff of victory. Meanwhile, Joss Buttler was doing a good job defending against the Indian bowlers and he found a good partner in Ollie Robinson.

Mohammed Siraj dismissed Buttler and James Anderson in the same over to write one of the best Test wins for India at Lord’s by 151 runs. He took four wickets in each innings and took key wickets every time Kohli asked him to bowl. KL Rahul was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant century in the first innings.
