England captain Ben Stokes ran out veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja with a stunning throw during Day 4 of the opening Test of the five-match series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday (January 28). Jadeja, who top-scored with 87 in the first innings, got out for only two runs in his second innings as well.

However, the dismissal came during the 39th over of India’s run-chase when Joe Root bowled a full-toss to Jadeja and he drove it in front of mid-on. Ben Stokes came to collect the ball and then reverse-thre it onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end as well. The throw was quick and accurate enough to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja.

Meanwhile, former India player turned veteran commentator Aakash Chopra feels Ravindra Jadeja doesn’t get much credit for being the standout all-rounder in Test cricket at the moment. However, Jadeja registered figures of 3/88 as Team India bowled England out for 246 in their first innings of the ongoing first Test in Hyderabad as well. He was unbeaten on 81 at Stumps on Day 2 (Friday, January 26) with the hosts’ first-innings score reaching 421/7 as well.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra said: “We need to praise Ravindra Jadeja. I think we do a disservice at times. We don’t give him that much importance. He is the No. 1 all-rounder in the world if we talk about the ICC rankings and he is 90 points ahead of the second-ranked guy. If he scores a century here, he took three wickets in the first innings and will pick up wickets in the second innings as well, his ranking points will increase further. So there is a huge gulf between No. 1 and No. 2.”
