Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum recently got past the record of the flamboyant Windies opener Chris Gayle’s tally of fours in T20 cricket in the recent Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 clash. McCullum smashed 8 fours in the innings for Trinbago Knight Riders taking his total to 879 fours in 341 matches. The self-proclaimed Universe Boss held the throne before him with 875 fours from 340 matches.

McCullum broke the record of  Gayle in style with a half-century for Trinbago Knight Riders against Barbados Tridents. Chasing a target of 129, the wicketkeeper-batsman single-handedly led his team to the victory scoring 66 runs from 42 deliveries including 8 fours and 3 sixes.

Everyone was so focused on Mohammad Irfan’s most economical spell in the history of T20 cricket that they overlooked McCullum’s achievement. Here is the video of the knock:

However, Gayle has time to catch up with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ five games left in the tournament (excluding the qualifiers and finals). It might be a head-on battle between the two of the most destructive T20 batsmen in the world. The banned Australian opener David Warner is the third batsman in the list with 780 fours from 251 matches. He is also playing in CPL 2018 for St Lucia Stars.

On the other hand, Gayle is undisputed on the list of batsmen with most sixes in T20 cricket with the tally of 857 sixes under his belt. The next closest batsman to his tally of sixes is Kieron Pollard with 550 sixes. McCullum is third on the list with 459 sixes.

The duo is also ruling the list of batsmen with most runs in T20 cricket. Whereas Gayle has 11,599 runs, McCullum has 9,330 runs heading towards the 10,000-mark.

We can not only hope that this record will only Chris Gayle to hit more fours than sixes.
