India’s top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has never been known for his agility on the cricket field but even he could do without the questionable distinction of being the first Indian cricketer to be run out twice in the same Test match. It was also the 25th incident in the history of Test cricket.

Pujara, who was got out on his first ball in the first innings of the 2nd Test with South Africa in Centurion by falling short of the crease, repeated the the same mistake on the 5th day as well as he was once again beaten by the AB de Villiers’ throw to the wicket-keeper as he was dismissed for 19 runs in the second innings on Wednesday. He was run-out for a duck in the first innings.

India was in terrible position at the start of Day 5, resuming at the overnight score of 35/3. Pujara’s dismissal, with the team total at 49, was another huge blow as it triggered another collapse for the visitors.

Needless to say, but that was the last mode of dismissal in which an Indian fan would expect Cheteshwar to get put on. It is a rare feat and in fact, the last time this happened was way back in 2000 when New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming was found out of the crease in both the innings of a Test against Zimbabwe at Wellington.

It is understood that former Australian skipper Mark Taylor and former Australian wicket-keeper Ian Healy have both been run-out in both innings of a Test on two occasions.

Pujara’s was the 25th occasion in the history of Test cricket when a player has been run-out in both innings of a Test match.
