Chris Gayle has recently joined his Punjab Kings teammates and began training after completing his mandatory quarantine. However, the veteran was seen in a jovial mood recently during a practice session. Recently, the Punjab based franchise has shared a video on Instagram, where Gayle was seen doing Shikhar Dhawan’s famous thigh-five celebration alongside his teammates – Mandeep Singh, Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar. In the video, Gayle even said, “Yeah, the Japps are back!”
Here is the video:
IPL 2021 is starting from April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the campaign opener. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings will play their first game on April 12, when they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR). They finished at sixth place in the points table last year, the KL Rahul-led team won six wins and eight defeats during IPL 2020 as well.
Apart from them, Punjab Kings’ Sarfaraz Khan too has been seen mimicking Darren Sammy’s playing style in front of players as well. While the video was funny, he also received Chris Gayle’s approval. However, his acting was so funny that everyone laughed at it, with Gayle saying, “Yeah, that’s Sammy. That’s Sammy for real!”.
But, despite having a roller coaster ride there, Punjab Captain KL Rahul had a stellar season as he won the Orange Cap, smashing 670 runs in 14 games. He also registered a century, and five half-centuries as well. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami was their highest wicket-taker, with 20 scalps. He was eighth in the Purple Cap race as well.
With an aim to win the IPL title in IPL 2021, Punjab Kings bought Australian pacer Jhye Richardson for a whopping price of Rs 14 crore during the mini-auction a couple of months ago in Chennai. Meanwhile, Riley Meredith was bought for Rs 8 crore also. They bought Shahrukh Khan for Rs 5.25 crore and apart from them, they added Dawid Malan, Moises Henriques and Fabian Allen to the team for the upcoming season.
