Chris Gayle has finally returned to form when he took the field against his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 26th match of the Indian Premier League 2021. He lightened up Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium during his 46-run knock. He struck six fours and two sixes during this 24-ball knock, five of these fours came in a single over of Kyle Jamieson.
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli opted to bowl first after winning the toss. KL Rahul made three changes in his team in form of Mayank Agarwal, Moises Henriques and Arshdeep Nath. Everyone expected Chris Gayle to open the batting in absence of Agarwal but instead, Prabhsimran Singh came out with Rahul.

However, this partnership didn’t last long. Kyle Jamieson removed Prabhsimran in his first over for seven runs. Then came the Universe Boss. He looked good from the start and took on Jamieson in the sixth over. Gayle started the over with a bang smashed the Kiwi bowler for four consecutive boundaries. Everyone thought we are going to see the repeat of last night when Prithvi Shaw scored six consecutive fours against Shivam Mavi.
The anticlimax happened on the fifth ball as Gayle failed to pierce the gap through covers. However, Gayle finished the over with another four to make five out of the six. This 20-run over took Punjab Kings’ total to 49/1 at the end of the powerplay.
