Kolkata Knight Riders changed their skipper midway into the IPL 2020 in UAE after Dinesh Karthik’s inability to win the game for his team with the bat. They appointed Eoin Morgan as the new captain with hopes of reviving their fortunes as well. However, the talismanic England skipper didn’t help the cause neither with his batting nor with his captaincy.

Whenever the team needs Morgan to play a captain’s innings, he disappoints everyone by getting out cheaply. Today was another day when every eye was waiting for Captain Morgan to swing his bat around but he got out in the unluckiest way.

He came out to bat after Sunil Narine got out in the 10th over. Just three balls later, Morgan was on his way back into the pavilion. Rahul Tripathi was batting well and had hit Chris Morris for a six on the first ball of the 11th over. He timed the next ball well and played it down the ground. Morgan was backing up to take a quick single. However, he left his bat hanging in the air and it deflected the ball towards Morris.

The bowler was quick to react and reached the ball instantly. The miscommunication between the batsmen added more confusion as Morris disturbed the bails at the non-striker’s end to send Morgan back for a diamond duck.

Earlier, Sanju Samson won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. KKR got off to a slow start and lost Shubhman Gill’s wicket while managing just 25 runs inside the powerplay. They kept losing wickets at the regular interval after that as well and couldn’t kick start their innings properly. Dinesh Karthik and Rahul Tripathi tried to up the ante but fell after playing short cameos. KKR, somehow, reached 133/9 in 20 overs and left their bowlers with a huge task to defend this modest total.
