SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have played under the new captain Kane Williamson in the match against Rajasthan Royals on May 2. While his new journey started with a defeat, he failed to do well with the bat too.

Earlier in the day, Williamson’s strange captaincy tactics didn’t have much effect on the opponent as Jos Buttler smashed a hundred to lift his side to a huge total of 221. While chasing, the captain couldn’t do well and after his dismissal, he was seen frustrated as well.

It happened in the 13th over when Kane Williamson found himself under the pressure due to the required run rate. He hit his first boundary while guiding the delivery to the fine leg region and he wanted to hit a six to mid-wicket soon after and played the pull shot too. But he failed to clear the fence as it went straight to the hands of Chris Morris. The experienced all-rounder did no mistake and the youngster Kartik Tyagi got the prized scalp, as well as the captain, got out for 20 off 21 balls.

However, SRH lost the game by 55 runs as their middle-order woes continued to trouble them. After the defeat, Kane Williamson said: “A tough day. A very competitive total from RR. It was Jos’ day and he was outstanding. With the bat you do need to get a few things to go your way and when you’re losing wickets it makes it all the more harder to chase 220. We have had a lot of challenges over the last three weeks, but we need to make small adjustments and put in improved performances. Jos and Sanju were key, so we wanted Rashid to bowl as many deliveries as possible against them. It is a bit of character building for us, so we just need to swallow it and move ahead. This game can change quickly and it is a game of fine lines. We just need to be clear of what we want to do each day.”
