As India are taking on Sri Lanka, speedster Jasprit Bumrah made headlines with his stunning bowling when he used his slower delivery to provide the breakthrough on Day 3 of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Overnight batters Charith Asalanka and Pathum Nissanka started quite well to keep the Indian bowlers under the pressure in the first hour. Nissanka survived a dropped chance off Ravichandran Ashwin whereas Asalanka hit through nervy edges and plays-and-misses as well.

It was an off-cutter that completely deceived Asalanka, who played down the wrong line as well. He got hit on his thighs. While the umpire declined the appeal from the Indian players first, Rohit Sharma finally took a review which then revealed that the ball was hit into the top of the off-stump as well.

Meanwhile, Jadeja was unbeaten on 175 when Indian captain Rohit Sharma was declared the innings as the team’s scorecard was showing with a total of 574/8. Fans weren’t happy with Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid’s decision as it denied Jadeja from scoring his maiden double-ton as well. But Jadeja himself clarified that he decided and signalled the team management to make the call regarding the declaration as well.

“Yeah there was a message coming from inside and I was also telling them. When I was batting, balls had started taking spin and there was variable bounce. So I told them that the wicket is playing tricks and we can put them [Sri Lanka] into bat,” Jadeja said in the press conference after the gameplay of Day 2.

“They were on the field for almost two days and were naturally tired. So it wouldn’t have been easy for them to come out and start playing shots and stay further on the field. So our plan was to score quickly and declare as soon as possible,” he concluded.
