Watch: Manish Pandey Scores Direct Hit To Tie Match Against Bengal

Karnataka and Bengal faced each other in a thrilling contest in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 quarterfinal in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Karnataka prevailed in the super over to advance to the semifinal.

Karnataka captain Manish Pandey scored a direct hit on the last ball of the match to send the game in the super over, where Karnataka sealed the game easily. Bengal had to score 20 runs in the final over. Ritwik Chowdhury smashed two sixes on the first two balls of the over.

Only one run was needed on the last ball but Manish Pandey hit the bull’s eye on the last ball to run out Akash Deep and the game ended in a tie before both teams played the decisive super over.

Bengal won the toss and opted to bowl first. Karnataka batters had a good start but they couldn’t convert their starts into match-defining scores. Manish Pandey scored 29 runs in 34 balls, where he hit one four and one six. Karun Nair batted with intent and scored a sensational unbeaten fifty. He scored 55 runs in 29 balls which featured four fours and three sixes. Karnataka scored 160/5 in 20 overs.

In response, Bengal’s chase got jolted early with regular wickets but Writtick Chatterjee was holding one end tight and scored a well-paced fifty. But Bengal were always behind the target. Ritwick Chowdhury scored unbeaten 36 runs in 18 balls, where he hit four fours and two sixes. Karnataka were favourites to win when Bengal needed 20 runs in the final over but the game was tied on the last over of the match.

Karnataka’s KC Cariappa bowled the super over and reduced Bengal to 5/2 in four balls, which made the task easy for Karnataka batters. Manish Pandey walked out to bat and smashed a six on the second ball to win the game and book a berth in the semifinal.
