Day 3 of the first-ever day-night Ashes Test seems to be going in favor of the Australian team. As they say ‘catches win matches’, the Australian ‘bowlers’ have managed to prove that.
There were three caught-and-bowled catches on Day 3 which triggered the collapse of England’s lower-middle batting order. Mitchell Starc took an amazing catch on his follow-through to dismiss Jonny Bairstow.
In the 54th over of England’s innings, Starc bowled one, swinging away from Bairstow. The wicketkeeper-batsman mistimed the ball and batted the straight shot too early.
Starc was lightning fast on his follow through and got one hand on it. The ball bounced off his right hand but Starc maintained his balance. He turned back and kept his eyes on the ball, completing the catch with ease. The reaction time was clocked at 0.561 seconds. Once again, the commentators were awestruck watching the catch as they saw the second blinder of the day; the first one was from Nathan Lyon to dismiss Moeen Ali.
Here’s the video of Starc’s juggling act to send Bairstow back to the dressing room:
