Sri Lanka and India began their three-match T20I tussle on Sunday evening in Colombo with the first T20I is underway currently. India handed two debut caps to Prithvi Shaw and Varun Chakravarthy and made few other changes as well. Sri Lanka opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

Chameera dismissed Shaw on the first ball of the game

Shaw was in good form during the One-Day International series, where he scored two 40s at a very good strike rate. His recent heroics in the Indian Premier League 2021 were enough to make his case stronger ahead of Devdutt Padikkal.

However, the most anticlimactic thing happened on the first ball of the match. All the hype surrounding Shaw’s much-anticipated debut lasted just one ball. He bagged a golden duck on his debut and got out on the very first balls of the game.

Dushmantha Chameera came to open the bowling, who Shaw hit for fun during the first ODI. But Chameera was better prepared for this game and gave Shaw a juicy ball outside the off stumps. Shaw went chasing and ended up conceding an edge to the wicketkeeper who did the rest.

Shaw became the second Indian player to bag a golden duck on his T20I debut. KL Rahul was the first to do so on his debut in the shortest format against Zimbabwe back in 2016.

Meanwhile, India managed to get over this early jolt in the next few overs. Sanju Samson came at number three and scored 27 runs before throwing yet another start away. He was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga on the very first ball of his spell.

India reached 78/2 at the 10 over mark with Shikhar Dhawan and Suryakumar Yadav batting in the middle.  Both players are looking in good touch and can take India to a competitive total if manage to stitch a good partnership.
