Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw smashed Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Shivam Mavi for six consecutive boundaries in the first over of DC’s chase in Ahmedabad. Shaw became only the second batsmen in the history of the Indian Premier League to smash six fours in an over and the first to do it in the opening over of the innings.
Fellow Delhi Capitals batsman Ajinkya Rahane became the first player to achieve this feat back in 2012, playing for Rajasthan Royals, when he smashes S Arvind for six boundaries against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mavi started the over with a leg-side wide. Then Shaw unleashed madness and struck back-to-back boundaries. Everyone thought the early onslaught will stop after the first three boundaries but Shaw was in the mood to give his U-19 teammate some serious hammering. He went on to score three more boundaries and put his name in the IPL record books.

Mavi conceded 25 runs in the first over. However, it wasn’t the most expensive opening-over in the league’s history. Instead, it comes at third place in this tally. Chris Gayle looted 27 runs against Abu Nechim back in 2011 while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians. Harbhajan Singh conceded 26 runs against KKR in 2013 in the opening over. Then comes Mavi’s place in this list.

Kolkata Knight Riders posted a modest total of 154/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Andre Russell scored quickfire 45 runs while Shubhman Gill got out after playing scoring 43 runs. Lalit Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with two crucial wickets in the middle-overs.
Delhi Capitals started their pursuit of 155 runs with a bang. Shaw provided a fiery start to his team. DC scored 67 runs without losing a single wicket in the powerplay. It is the best score in the powerplay in the IPL 2021.
